The one bug that always bites me in January is the want to do virus. Do you ever get that? It comes from seeing what other crocheters have planned for the year. I become tempted, as I was when I watched Jayda InStitches reveal the layout for her calendar project blanket. I've done a mood blanket over the course of a year, and I'd like to try another project like that.
Christa at The Secret Yarnery has several crochet-along "Year of the Granny" projects planned, and from what she says it will be a lot of granny squares and granny stitches that can be made into a variety of things. I've never done a crochet-along except while watching a tutorial video.
Elise Rose always tempts me with something, and her get-it-done-in-one day video made me wonder if I should try doing a new one-day project every month this year.
The problem with getting involved with what I want to do is I have other interests besides crochet. I've already committed to doing a calendar quilting project by making a crazy quilt tote every month. That's turning out to be quite a time sink already, and I don't know if I want to pile more pressure on myself by getting involved in more committments. I'm also limited on how much time I can devote to crochet with my day job, our nephew moving in with us and being very busy with life in general.
My one ambition with crochet for 2026 is to do a little every day, as it's wonderful physical therapy for my hands. I wouldn't mind making a new throw or big project every month, but I won't commit to that because I've already got enough on my plate. It'll be fun just to see how much I can crochet with everything else going on.
I do very much like the online crochet community, and if possible I'd like to get more involved with what others are doing in 2026. For those reasons I am going to watch Jayda's video when she does the project reveal, and estimate how much time it would take to do for me every month. Maybe I can do a calendar blanket with her next year.
In the meantime, I'll probably check in on Christa's granny projects and maybe do a small one if I have time. I do like the idea of one-day projects that I can make while taking a break from my main crochet projects, so I will likely try some of those from Elise Rose's video. That said, 2026 needs to be the year of what I can do, not what I want to do, so I'll also keep my ambitions in check and not stretch myself too thin.
