For the next section of the Iris throw I chose a partial skein of variegated blue/green/white acrylic worsted yarn with no label; it strongly resembles a Herrschners worsted brand in the shade April Showers. I also knew it wasn't enough yarn to crochet nine rows.
This yarn was okay, a bit splitty and on the thin side for a worsted. It worked up without knots and I didn't hate or love it; it was just okay.
Sure enough, at the start of the last row I had only a bit of yarn left, ala the light blue section. Someone who uses new yarn could just go and buy another skein, but I have to work with what I have thrifted in my stash. I pulled this ball of Red Heart Super Saver variegated in Monet from my scrap basket, but I wasn't sure if it would blend in well.
My other option was this similar unlabeled variegated, only it is DK weight, not worsted.
I tried crocheting a couple stitches with the scrap RH variegated, which didn't blend in very well.
The DK variegated worked better, and didn't look all that much different from the worsted yarns I used, so I went with that.
The finished section. Since I'm now past the halfway point let's see how the throw looks.
Not bad. It's coming together as I thought it would.
