As I mentioned before, I did thrift one time during my no-spend March; we stopped by the Goodwill in Oxford so my guy could look for some t-shirts. I should have stayed away from the back bins, but my curiosity got the better of me, and I spotted some incredible bargains. That day we also stopped by the local candy outlet store, and since I'd already taken the dive I bought myself a little sugarfree candy. Since my health insurance premium hasn't changed, and I got in a bunch of extra income I'm not kicking myself for either spend.
These two bags of supplies were $4.98 each.
This bag of yarn was $5.18.
None of the yarn came with labels, but I recognized four of the five. Those two skeins on the bottom left are Wool Ease Thick and Quick, which retail for $10.99 each. The black gray and white striped yarn is Bernat blanket yarn and retails for $14.99. The solid black is Red Heart Super Saver at $4.99 retail. The only one that is a question mark is the ball of purple with blue showing through, and I think might be a Mandala yarn. Anyway, this is about $47.00 worth of yarn for $5.18 -- hard to resist, especially as I'm collecting Wool Ease for a future project.
One bag of material had three little unused cross stitch kits in it (generally retail for $2.00 each), but the reason I bought it was the stretchy jewelry cord, which I need to repair a bracelet; that would cost me about $12.00 new. The tubes of beads are labeled $2.99 each. So $26.97 total value.
The second bag contained twenty-eight skeins of embroidery floss, 24 of which were vintage and unused. DMC runs about $1.15 per skein these days, so that's $32.20 in floss alone. Add in another $5.00 for the notions and cards for a total value of $37.20.
My one thrift in March cost me a grand total of $15.14, and was worth approximately $111.17. That's likely why I feel no guilt in falling off the wagon -- even if it was twice! :)
