I finished the star blanket I started at the beginning of June in about a week as a side project to use up the last of the Sweet Roll Cinnamon Pop yarn I thrifted. It took a week to make, but I didn't work on it for two of those days, so really it's more like five days for someone fast like me.
Here it is on my home office sofa for scale. Although the pattern called for five balls of Sweet Roll it only took three to make the pattern, which works up to about baby blanket size. I kept going and added on the last two balls and a partial skein I had, determined to use as much of the yarn as I could.
I played yarn chicken, in fact, on the last row, and ended up with a little ball of maybe two yards leftover.
Thoughts on this pattern:
Negatives: I didn't care for the way it was written for the last two repeating rows; my tweak to resolve the join worked but not brilliantly. The fact that the yarn required measurement is really off is worrisome; that adds cost and waste that the maker doesn't need if they want the smaller version. I think this is the wrong yarn to use for a star pattern (or any star pattern, for that matter,) as that kind of design turns out nicer in even rows of solid colors.
Positives: with solid rows of double crochet it's a yarn eater, so a good project if you have three to five worsted skeins you want to work up. The star shape is fun. This would be a cute, unusual baby blanket to gift.
I'm getting close to finishing the Azalea yarn scarf, which will likely be the project I focus on for the rest of this month, with one-skein projects to do as breaks. Wish me luck. :)
