While we were dropping off some clothes to the local church thrift store I spotted this unused book for $1.99. I've made origami in the past, and enjoyed it but I've never tried it seriously. Since this book comes with the papers as well as the instructions, it seemed like just the thing to try in June on my breaks from crocheting and quilting this month. Because of course I need more hobbies! Ha.
If I'm correct about my progress (I'm writing this on 5/23) I will need to finish crocheting in June this scarf out of superfine yarn. It's been a bit of a slog because of the yarn being unspun, but more on that when I have a completed project.
I am also making a throw for a dear friend who requested one, and using Anastacia Zittel's Ocean Tranquility pattern for it. I started out with another of her patterns but it didn't work for me or the yarn. Now my progress is humming along. This throw will likely take another month or two but I'm quite happy with my progress, all things considered.
I would like to test out in June more of the new-to-me yarns that I acquired in May, so I'll likely do a few one-day or one-skein projects.
It's tempting to be hard on myself because I messed up on projects so often last month, and have three WIPs that are still unfinished, but this has never been about being perfect or accomplishing a huge number of things. At my age and in my condition that's simply not practical. Instead, I try to focus on the journey and what I'm learning from everything I try. The sloggy scarf, for example, has taught me that unspun superfine yarn and I really don't suit each other because it's a bit fiddly and prone to popping threads if my attention strays. The throw in progress taught me that it's okay to be wrong about the first pattern I try and to try again with something else.
Stay tuned to the blog to find out what I learn and get done (or not) in June.
