For the second band of the Iris throw I used a 5 oz. cake of Sweet Roll by Premier Yarns in Gelato Pop, which is a worsted weight three-color acrylic in brand-new condition. These sell new for $7.99 at Wal-Mart. I thrifted this and all the other skeins I'll be using for this throw for about $2.67 each.
This is a nice yarn, and I liked it a little more than the Lion Brand Pound of Love. It's light and smooth, and the pull on the cake is pretty effortless. The color changes are rather abrupt, but I don't mind that.
I did not find any partial splits or knots in the cake.
The only problem I saw with the yarn was a bit of purple dye spillage or migration right in this section that created a splotch in the middle of the light blue section. I didn't mind that and thought it was a little interesting, but anyone who encounters the same can of course just cut out the spill.
I used almost all of the cake with a small ball leftover to make nine more rows, so I'll definitely need five ounces for each band.
