For the fifth section on the Iris throw I used a thrifted skein of Mainstays 100% acrylic worsted yarn in the color purple, which was my mother's favorite color. This is a private label brand owned by Wal-Mart; interestingly their Mainstays products were bought by over 70% of U.S. households last year. I got this 7 oz. skein already partially used, but I thought I had enough to do the section.
This is a not particular soft but quite sturdy acrylic, and worked up with no issues. It's a bit thick compared to the others, but I'm assuming once the throw is laundered some of that will come out in the wash. I actually do better with sturdier yarns, so I liked working with it.
I had enough to complete the nine rows of the section with a little ball of scrap leftover. In four and a half more rows I'll be halfway finished, so stay tuned to see how it's going.
