I decided to start a new project to use up the rest of the Sweet Roll yarn I thrifted. Also, I'm getting tired of slogging on every night with the three WIPs I haven't finished, and life is short so why not? Seriously, I just needed something simple and kind of mindless to complete before I turn 100, and this free printable star blanket pattern from Premier is just the thing.
I chose this pattern because it calls for five skeins of Sweet Roll yarn, which is exactly how much I have left, and I actually do like star-shaped blankets. Despite my dislike of one pattern, I do want to try some others and maybe write one of my own.
The pattern is very straight forward; the only issue I had with it are the round join directions for row eight, which I think are overly complicated and don't produce a good-looking star point in that spot. So I tweaked the pattern to make sense and better form the point.
I know, I'm so opinionated when it comes to patterns. But really, if you can improve on a flawed design, and you're not selling the end product, why wouldn't you?
After two nights' work I got halfway through the rows; I could see that the blanket was going to be small but sweet. Already my heart had grown a little lighter, too. I might do a couple of different star blanket patterns this summer.
How it looked after three night's work.
On the fourth night I completed the pattern, and still had two skeins of the yarn plus a scrap ball left. I'm not sure why the pattern calls for five skeins when it only took three. Anyway, I decided to keep adding rows until I used up the rest of the yarn.
